AIM AND SCOPE OF THE SYMPOSIUM

Bozok Highland has been a region that various tribes have preferred to settle since the antiquity because it is at the north-south and east-west crossroad of Anatolia and is a natural fortress in terms of security. In antiquity, it was under the domination of Hittites, Phrygians and Galatians. As the clans from Bozok tribe of Oghuz often settled in this region after the arrival of Turks into Anatolia, it was also geographically called as Bozok.

Under the Ottoman rule, the urbanization of Bozok sanjak has taken place under very special conditions. Bozok, which was a free trade area in 18. and 19. centuries, became a city of peace in a  short time where Armenian, Rum and Muslim people lived together.

In the hard times of Ottoman Empire, Muslims migrating from the Balkans, Caucasus and East Anatolia took refuge in the untouched Anatolian lands of Bozok. Therefore, Bozok was a region where immigrants and refugee are populated intensively like today. The location of different societies in this region enabled different socio-cultural and faith groups to come together in the same geographic location.

In this context, the main goal of this symposium is to determine and define; the historical, social, cultural, folkloric and religious values of societies that come from different geographic regions and bind their destinies in Bozok, and subterranean and terrestrial treasures and to bring together the scientists who study in these fields on the same platform.
